"Fantastic experience"

The food was fantastic, and the service was even better. The menu is wonderfully varied, encouraging diners to try something new and adventurous. The atmosphere is lively and energetic, and the prices are very reasonable considering the quality and variety of what you get.

"5* food, 4* for most else"

The food was excellent—fresh, high-quality ingredients thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. Prices were reasonable for NYC standards. The wine list was extensive, though we stuck with a Basque wine we had already chosen. Specials were highlights: goosehead barnacles were briny, meaty, and a little chewy—definitely a unique experience. The butterflied trout with razor-thin ham slices was superb, while the cod was fine but forgettable in comparison. Gilda pintxos were perfectly balanced, foie gras was good though the accompaniments stole the show, and the king oyster mushroom carpaccio was a must-try. The potato salad, however, was entirely missable. Service was inconsistent: the meal began at a blistering pace with dishes arriving before we had finished the previous ones, then slowed dramatically at the end. Servers were pleasant and helpful throughout. The table was cramped, even for two, and positioned near the kitchen entry and bathrooms, which made the space noisy. Concrete walls and minimal sound absorption made conversation difficult amid the kitchen and staff activity. I’d return to try different dishes but would request a better table for a more enjoyable experience.

"Leave Your Appetite, but not Your Wallet, at Home"

This was our second visit to Txikito, and unfortunately, it reminded us why we hadn’t returned sooner. While our server was engaged and offered menu suggestions, the portions were painfully small for the high prices, and nothing felt particularly special. Cocktails were weak, and many dishes were underwhelming: rubbery mushrooms on a few slices of dry bread, tiny artichoke spreads, minimal eggplant in a bland sauce, and the specials—like a few flecks of “local Albacore” and half a tomato with “tomato mayo”—were shockingly overpriced. With two drinks and five small dishes, our $80 per person felt completely unjustified. We left still hungry and will not be returning.

"A fine selection of tapas for sharing. Excellent service and wine list,"

Four of us enjoyed a special evening dining outdoors, sharing a fine selection of tapas paired with an impressive variety of wines, mostly from Spain. The service was warm and attentive, and the food was very good. Highly recommended!

"Txikito Falls Short"

I went to Txikito with high expectations, given the excellence of its sister properties, Quinto Pino in Chelsea and La Vara in Brooklyn, the latter being Michelin-starred. While the restaurant has a pleasant ambiance, our experience was dampened by a lack of friendliness from our server. She wasn’t rude, but clearly disengaged, which in a city with so many dining options is a major drawback. Food-wise, the tapas relied far too heavily on bread. Dishes like boquerones, xangurro, and Txariboda sausages were served on oil-soaked bread, while the blood sausage lacked flavor entirely. The Txistorra sausage was better, but overly greasy. The only standout was the cochinillo, cooked to perfection with crispy skin and juicy meat, though still mild in taste. Overall, the dishes felt mediocre compared to the high standards set by the owners’ other restaurants, suggesting that the owners might not be overseeing this location closely enough. The wine list was small but had good selections. While there were a few highlights, overall, Txikito was a disappointment given its reputation and the pedigree of its sister restaurants.

"Tapas in New York"

This tapas-style restaurant offers a wide variety of hot and cold dishes—vegetables, seafood, and meats—perfect for sharing across the table. While some plates are excellent, the quality can be inconsistent. The cocktails, however, are consistently very good.

"Not worth it"

The restaurant is cozy and the staff are very friendly, but the tapas are extremely small—even for tapas standards. After ordering three dishes, it became clear that all the portions are tiny. Prices are outrageously high for what you get, and the cocktails I tried were disappointing. By the end of the meal, I left both hungry and feeling ripped off.

"Very nice neighborhood joint"

Fantastic Basque small plates—almost everything we tried was excellent. The blood sausage was a bit mild in flavor, but still enjoyable. Service was great, and it’s a very enjoyable spot if you’re in the neighborhood.

"Excellent!"

The food, service, ambiance, and wine were all excellent! Highlights included the squid ribbons, beef cheeks, foie gras, and Basque cheesecake. The restaurant also offers a great selection of Sherry. Definitely a must-try for anyone seeking an outstanding Basque-inspired meal.

"Excellent Basque tapas"

We were looking for an interesting spot in Chelsea and Txikito came highly recommended—wow! We ordered several plates to share, which allowed us to try dishes we might never pick ourselves, like octopus carpaccio, poached salt cod, and foie gras. Every dish was outstanding. The drink menu wasn’t as impressive as the food, though there were some standout cocktails. Service was very good throughout. Definitely recommended!
