"Premium Economy is a total joke"

We always fly premium on long-haul flights with airlines like Virgin Atlantic or Singapore Airlines, so our experience with Vietnam Airlines was appalling by comparison. The behavior of the ground staff at both departure and arrival gates was shockingly unprofessional and disorganized. The evacuation drill was a complete farce—rushed, abandoned mid-way, restarted, and then dropped again. On our return flight, there wasn’t even a safety demonstration or video, which left me seriously concerned about how the crew would handle a real emergency. In-flight service was equally disappointing. There were no welcome drinks, and beverages were served only in paper cups—no prosecco, no Bacardi, and no champagne. Meals were inedible, with no western options (which wasn’t the issue), but we couldn’t even identify what we were being served—just unappetizing pots of slimy goo and stale bread rolls. As a diabetic, I ended up eating nothing on the outbound 12-hour flight. Comfort-wise, the experience was poor: no amenity kits, only a pair of slippers in an unsealed bag, no bottled water, thinly padded seats, and broken chairs on the outbound journey. The aircraft itself felt old and dated. The only redeeming factor was slightly more legroom and recline than Virgin, but that alone is nowhere near enough. Overall, it was a deeply disappointing experience, and I’m unsure whether it’s even worth filing a complaint, though part of me thinks they need to hear it. Never again.

"A decent, budget airline"

Vietnam Airlines doesn’t pretend to be a luxury carrier, and that’s totally fine. It’s a budget airline that delivers decent, no-frills service. We traveled from Singapore to Hanoi and back, and both flights went smoothly. A meal and drinks were provided, and although there was no in-flight entertainment, that wasn’t an issue—I was happy to read a book. The crew was polite, respectful, and professional throughout. No complaints at all. I’d definitely fly with them again.

"The good and the bad!"

We flew with Vietnam Airlines on four flights over a 10-day period. The outbound flight from Melbourne in Economy Class was superb, and the two domestic flights that followed were equally faultless in terms of service. However, our final leg—Premium Economy from Saigon to Melbourne—was a letdown. The dinner options were limited to only beef or pork, both of which I do not eat. When I politely requested an alternative, I was met with zero empathy. The response was dismissive and the tone, frankly, condescending. I wasn’t upset about missing a meal, but the attitude from the cabin staff was deeply disappointing. Having flown internationally for over 50 years, I can say this was one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve encountered. It wasn’t about the food—it was about the lack of basic courtesy and care.

"Publish a calendar not a timetable"

What a shambles this airline is! Two flights in 10 days both hours late. One look at the departure boards will tell you how bad they are!

"The Vietnam’s Best Airline"

I highly recommend Vietnam Airlines. In my opinion, it is the best airline in Vietnam. Whenever I travel abroad, I will always prefer to fly with this airline. The service, reliability, and overall experience make it my top choice for international travel.

"Very poor airline.!!!!!"

I strongly recommend avoiding Vietnam Airlines. We paid extra for legroom seats, but due to constant flight changes initiated by the airline, our selected seats mysteriously disappeared. We chose Vietnam Airlines specifically because they were the most expensive option with the shortest advertised flight time—but what we got was the opposite. We were relentlessly bombarded with delay notifications, some arriving while we were en route to the airport or already waiting at the gate. Communication was non-existent. Boarding was chaotic, with no announcements—even a gate change was made just five minutes before the listed boarding time, and then we were delayed another hour at the new gate. Both our outbound and return flights arrived at their destinations roughly three hours late, causing us to miss onward connections on both ends. To top it off, the food on board was terrible. Vietnam Airlines turned what was meant to be a smooth travel experience into a frustrating ordeal.

"Service of Vietnam Airlines – Below average"

I booked a red-eye flight that was supposed to depart at 03:35 AM. Unfortunately, I missed the email notifying me of the change. Typically, other airlines will call or send repeated notifications until you acknowledge them, but Vietnam Airlines did not do this. I arrived at the airport at 02:00 AM, only to find out that the flight had been cancelled and I was rebooked on a 07:55 AM flight. It was a nightmare! As compensation, they gave us a breakfast voucher, which honestly wasn’t needed at that point.

"Review"

The food was amazing, and the service was top-notch. I even had the incredible opportunity to visit the cockpit and see the controls. Vietnam Airlines truly stands out as the best Vietnamese airline I’ve ever experienced!

"Steady flying"

I took a roundtrip within Vietnam, flying from HCMC to Phu Quoc, then to Hanoi, and back to HCMC. The service during the flights was excellent, and I was pleased to get exit seats at no extra cost. Check-in and boarding were smooth with no long queues. There were a couple of changes in flight times, but the updates were communicated well. Overall, great value for money. Highly recommend!

"Just the job"

Our flight was quite short, lasting just about an hour and fifteen minutes, so there isn’t much to mention. They offered water or orange juice, but no food, which is understandable given the brief duration of the flight.

"Highly recommend"

I’ve flown with Vietnam Airlines multiple times, both on long-haul and domestic flights in Vietnam, and I would definitely recommend them. The long-haul flights offer a great selection of entertainment, which sets them apart from other airlines. As a vegetarian, the food was an important factor, and I found it easy to book a special meal through their website. The meals were tasty, and most flights were a positive experience. There was one flight, however, that was slightly disappointing. On the Paris to Ho Chi Minh City route (a 12-hour flight), we were served dinner and breakfast but nothing in between. The staff seemed to be absent for most of the flight, leaving passengers to seek snacks and drinks from the kitchen. This was a one-time issue, as other 12-hour flights with them had ample food, and I was frequently offered refreshments. On short domestic flights within Vietnam, the staff was always professional and polite. Overall, I highly recommend Vietnam Airlines and will definitely be booking with them again.
