"Overbooking and Refusal to Refund – Avoid Volánbusz"

Volánbusz’s practice of overbooking buses and then refusing to refund passengers is effectively an advance-fee scam, taking money for a service they never provide. This is misleading and deceptive, and I strongly advise travelers to avoid this company at all costs.

"Poor Service and Confusing Ticket Reprinting at Budapest Nepliget"

Today I bought a ticket from Budapest to Igal but accidentally lost it at Nepliget station. After searching and checking the toilets, I went to the ticket office to have it reprinted. I showed my bank statement and even told the assistant my seat number (33). He initially said I had to buy a new ticket and that reprinting wasn’t possible. I purchased a new ticket, but surprisingly, he did reprint the original ticket, resulting in me having the same seat number twice. I also was never offered a receipt for either purchase. While it’s my responsibility to track my items, this situation highlighted poor customer service and an outdated, inefficient process. Providing alternative proof of purchase, like accepting a bank statement, would greatly improve the experience. Overall, it felt like old Soviet-era service standards.

"Generally Good Service but Issues with One Bus Driver"

Overall, this is a good bus company in Hungary. As a regular passenger, I find most staff at the counter and drivers friendly and helpful. However, I’ve had a negative experience with one particular driver, who has been problematic and inconsistent. On three occasions, he allowed other passengers to take the seat I had selected, without any explanation. I’m not sure why this keeps happening—perhaps timing or bad luck, but it raises concerns about fairness and possible bias. Other than this issue, the service is generally reliable and pleasant.

"Comfortable and Enjoyable Waiting at the Station"

This place is nice and quite comfortable. I arrived an hour before my bus, but I didn’t get bored at all. There are plenty of things to do, such as buying a coffee (very affordable), enjoying a delicious croissant, or browsing for souvenirs. Overall, it makes waiting for your bus a pleasant and enjoyable experience.

"Inconvenient and Poorly Managed Bus Station Facilities"

The bus station lacks free public toilets, and the paid toilets close before the station building closes, even though buses continue to depart after hours. This leaves passengers with nowhere to go. It’s frustrating and poorly managed, and the fact that no one monitors or addresses the issue makes the situation even more absurd.

"Long Wait Times Despite Well-Maintained Station"

Waiting here can take hours just to get anything done, as only one out of four customer windows was open on a busy weekday afternoon. This is frustrating and inefficient. On the positive side, the station building is well-kept, spacious, and has plenty of chairs and benches to sit on while waiting, which makes the experience somewhat more bearable.

"Disgraceful Overbooking Practices"

The company engages in overbooking buses and then forces passengers who cannot board to buy a new ticket for a later bus, without refunding the original fare. This practice is absolutely disgraceful and shows a complete disregard for customer rights and fair service.
