"Superb Japanese"
Yoshino is the New York outpost of Sushi no Yoshino in Nagoya, and having experienced the original, we felt compelled to visit—and we were not disappointed. Under the personal guidance of Chef Yoshida, a third-generation sushi master, Yoshino offers a strictly omakase experience: a twenty-course journey featuring seven appetizers, seven nigiri courses, soup, hand rolls, and dessert. The signature grilled press saba sushi is a standout. This is traditional Japanese cuisine with thoughtful international touches, not for the faint of heart. At $625 per diner (over $700 with drinks), it is a premium experience. The non-descript storefront welcomes one party at a time, with the door locked behind guests, creating an intimate and focused dining environment. The minimalist, Zen-inspired décor evokes the elegance of Ginza, completing a superb venue we highly recommend.
